The Application Process

Choose a subject

All of the subjects that Cambridge offers are interesting and intellectually challenging, but which one do YOU want to spend the next 3 or 4 years studying? Whilst some people do switch subject at Cambridge, your life will be much easier if you get it right first time around! Look at the subject and student profiles, and take a look at the official Cambridge website.

UCAS form

Make sure that your form is submitted by 15th October. Take your time filling the form in, making sure you do all the sections and all the information is correct. Don’t forget your personal statement, this will take a very long time to get right and you to be happy with it, the summer is often a good time to start on it! Although I’ve said that it will take a long time, try not to think it’ll be the difference between getting an offer and not, whilst it is important Cambridge take a holistic view of your application. The most important thing about your personal statement is that it is PERSONAL; it should be about you and your thoughts and feelings to do with your chosen subject. A good guide is that it should be 2/3rd academic and 1/3rd about your extracurricular activities. See some more personal statement tips on the CUSU perspective students’ pages.

The institution name is CAM, the code is CO5, and the campus code for Caius is Y.

SAQ

After you’ve submitted your UCAS application you’ll receive an email (so make sure you check them!) asking you to complete an online SAQ form. This is a way of Caius getting some more information about you that isn’t covered on the UCAS form. It asks about things like your module scores and class sizes. You will be given a deadline by which to complete the form by, make sure you do it! If you have any major problems whilst doing this don’t be afraid to get in touch with the admissions office, they’ll be happy to help you!

Interview

See the Interview section.

Anything else?

Bear in mind that you may need to do a test before/at interview, or submit some written work. Make sure if this applies to you that you know what you have to do, you may need to register for a test! Information on this can be found on the Cambridge website.
